Reports to: Principal/Assistant Principal The Dean of Students position is responsible for attendance, discipline, safety, and related student personnel services and performs the duties within the authority and responsibility delegated by the Principal.
- Recommends, administers, and enforces building policies and procedures for attendance and discipline.
- Supervises and is responsible for maintaining and managing each student's attendance, discipline records, and policies.
- Supervises all lunch periods.
- Plans and implements preventive disciplinary measures through changes in programming, counseling, home visits, schedule changes, behavioral plans, etc.
- Maintains disciplinary files.
- Exercises appropriate leadership in processing student behavioral problems, including accurate record keeping of infractions and communication with parents and staff.
- Identify, model, and build the capacity for staff to implement instructional strategies and activities designed to improve student behavior.
- Organizes and coordinates study table for failing students involved in activities.
- Facilitate, develop, and present processes and related training that lead to positive student outcomes, including PBIS, restorative practices, and other proactive supports and interventions.
- Lead Administrator for Building Security Team
- Work closely with the Assistant Principal, counselor, and school social worker on student issues of concern.
- Lead Administrator for all the middle school SEL programming.
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required.
- Illinois Principal Endorsement or General Administrative Endorsement preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful educational experience, preferably at the middle school level.
- Knowledge of Illinois School Code, student discipline procedures, restorative practices, PBIS, and MTSS.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
