Corps Assistant

The Corps Assistant supports the Corps Officers in the spiritual, pastoral, administrative, and community ministry of the corps. This role assists with worship services, discipleship programs, outreach efforts, youth and family ministries, special events, and seasonal activities. The position serves as a key connection between the corps, volunteers, community members, and partner organizations, helping to strengthen relationships and advance ministry goals. In addition, the Corps Assistant provides primary leadership and coordination of the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. Through all responsibilities, the Corps Assistant supports The Salvation Army's mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

We are looking for a bilingual Corps Assistant (English/Spanish) to support our Corps Officers in daily ministry, outreach, and seasonal programs. In this role, you will bridge language barriers to provide vital services and a welcoming environment for all English- and Spanish-speaking community members.

Duties and Responsibilities

Corps Ministry and Operations

• Support Corps Officers in daily ministry and corps operations.
• Assist with planning, coordination, and implementation of corps programs and activities.
• Carry out assignments delegated by Corps Officers.

Worship and Spiritual Ministry

• Assist with worship services, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and special services.
• Participate in preaching, teaching, worship leadership, and discipleship opportunities as assigned.
• Encourage spiritual growth and Christian fellowship among corps participants.
• Support evangelism and outreach initiatives.

Children, Youth, and Family Ministries

• Assist with children's, youth, teens, and family programs.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers serving in youth ministries.
• Promote a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment.
• Develop opportunities for discipleship and spiritual growth.

Pastoral Care and Outreach

• Assist the Corps Officers with the planning, implementation, and leadership of ministry programs which may include Youth Programs, After School Youth Program, Women`s Ministry and Men `s Ministry.
• Assist, lead and support Sunday School, Sunday Worship, Music Programs, weeknight activities and outreach.
• Assist with collecting and submitting Corps statistics and maintaining Corps management System.
• Help with seasonal activities Easter, Vacation Bible Studies, Angel Tree Toy Assistance, summer camp, Thanksgiving and Christmas events.
• Assist with social services programs onsite and outreach food distribution, community activities and community meals.
• Assist with visitation and follow-up of members, visitors, seniors, and families.
• Provide prayer, encouragement, and spiritual support.
• Represent The Salvation Army professionally within the community.

Christmas Kettle Campaign

• Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
• Recruit, schedule, train, and communicate with kettle volunteers.
• Coordinate kettle locations with businesses and community partners.
• Monitor staffing and scheduling needs throughout the campaign.
• Ensure compliance with Salvation Army financial and operational procedures.
• Assist with campaign evaluation and volunteer recognition.

Special Events and Seasonal Programs

• Assist with Christmas assistance programs, community events, Vacation Bible School, camps, and fundraising activities.
• Help coordinate promotion, logistics, volunteer support, and follow-up for special events.

Administration and Communication

• Maintain program records and reports.
• Assist with social media, flyers, newsletters, and corps communications.
• Attend meetings and provide updates to Corps Officers.
• Assist with scheduling and general administrative duties.

Education/Experience, Skills, Qualities, Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's Degree, Bible College training, or related ministry education preferred.
• Experience working in church ministry, nonprofit organizations, youth programs, community outreach, or volunteer management preferred.
• Experience with The Salvation Army programs preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish needed.

Requirements

• Driving: The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver's license. An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies.
• Background Check: Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army's policies.
• Physical: Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
