Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for nights) | Holiday requirement varies

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 56-bed Adult Medical Specialty Unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 on nights
• Manage common diagnoses including cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health and addiction cases
• Perform and manage care involving central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes
• Monitor and manage set-rate drips (e.g., Heparin, Lasix); titration of drips is not required
• Collaborate with PCTs who assist with vital signs, accuchecks, bladder scans, and ADLs; monitor telemetry via Philips monitors (house-wide remote monitoring with RN strip viewing capability)
• Float as needed to other acute care general medicine areas including nephrology, neuro, ortho, and oncology

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Hands-on experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior travel nursing experience on a Med/Surg floor strongly preferred
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Experience in a Level I Trauma Center (may substitute for travel experience if EPIC experience is also present)
• Familiarity with BiPAP/CPAP, inhaler administration, and suctioning in an acute care setting
