Primary City/State: Phoenix, Arizona Department Name: Outpatient Observation Unit Work Shift: Night Job Category: Nursing $15,000 Sign-On Bonus The Observation Unit provides care for patients who do not require inpatient admission for additional diagnostic workup beyond the scope of a typical Emergency Department visit. Staff maintain a 4:1 nurse‑to‑patient ratio, utilizing a mixed LPN model, and offer an Outpatient in a Bed Ortho/Cardiac Post Procedural Recovery area within the unit. The Night Shift hours are 7:00 PM–7:30 AM. Nurses use our self‑scheduling tool for shift and weekend coverage. Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themselves or others under their direction and uses specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate appropriate care. Core Functions Assess patients’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs, review patient history, family input, and diagnostics, reporting abnormal results to physicians, and complete assessments and reassessments within appropriate timeframes. Formulate a plan of care, including discharge plans, based on assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health team. Set realistic, measurable goals and revise the care plan as patient status changes. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the care team. Provide care per physician orders, nursing plan, and regulatory requirements, delegating and supervising appropriately and ensuring continuity of care through accurate communication. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the care plan as needed and assessing progress toward goals and expected outcomes. Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record promptly and accurately, reflecting objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient responses. Provide care based on best evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice. Engage in unit or facility leadership, education, orientation, and support of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors, including mentoring when appropriate. Contribute to society through activities that yield excellent patient outcomes and participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including professional organizations. Supervise staff and workflow when required by the role. Interact with all staff levels, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, including clergy, to provide spiritual support and synthesize data from various sources for patient and family support. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice (temporary/interim or compact). BLS certification is required. Additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Experience in the clinical area is desired; must have at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months. For registry or travel positions, a minimum of one year in an acute care or physician practice setting is required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred.
