Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Coffee Roaster role based in Crystal Lake, IL. The Coffee Roaster is responsible for operating roasting equipment, executing roast profiles, and monitoring roast curves to achieve consistent, high-quality results. Daily tasks include weighing and preparing green coffee, roasting according to established profiles, cupping and evaluating coffees, and adjusting profiles as needed. The role also involves maintaining detailed roast logs, performing routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance, and assisting with packaging, labeling, and inventory organization. The Coffee Roaster will collaborate with the production and café teams, support training on coffee quality and brewing standards, and help ensure all products meet Conscious Cup Coffee’s quality and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Coffee Roasting and Specialty Coffee practices, with an understanding of roast profiles, flavor development, and green coffee characteristics.
- Experience with Quality Control, including cupping, sensory evaluation, and recording roast and tasting data.
- Strong Communication skills to collaborate with production, café, and leadership teams and share feedback on quality and processes.
- Ability to support and deliver Training related to coffee quality, roasting procedures, and safety protocols.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow and refine standard operating procedures.
- Comfort with physically demanding work, including lifting coffee bags, standing for extended periods, and working in a production environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Prior experience in coffee roasting, production, or specialty coffee is preferred but not required; a strong interest in coffee and willingness to learn is essential.
