Job Description
The Manufacturing Team Lead oversees the complete mechanical and electrical assembly of units from start to finish in a hands-on production environment. This role combines technical assembly work with production line leadership, quality oversight, and continuous improvement. You will build and wire control panels, assemble conveyors and motors, interpret schematics and wiring diagrams, and ensure units are assembled accurately and efficiently. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, proficiency with computer software including Excel and other applications, and the ability to support multiple production lines while troubleshooting and repairing components as needed.
Responsibilities

• Perform complete mechanical and electrical assembly of units from start to finish using a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and service manuals to build units accurately and safely.
• Lay out and build control panels, including PLCs and drives, without requiring programming responsibilities.
• Assemble conveyors, install motors, and build panel boards according to production specifications and quality standards.
• Install wiring, electrical components such as terminals and jump fuses, and electrical panels as a critical part of the assembly process.
• Lead and support different production lines, performing high-level assembly work and adjusting to changing production needs.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical components to maintain smooth and efficient line operation.
• Conduct quality assurance, quality control, and inspection activities to ensure all units meet established standards.
• Supervise and guide production line activities, helping coordinate workflows and supporting production management objectives.
• Clearly explain assembly and build processes, including the reasoning behind each step, to team members and stakeholders.
• Proactively identify opportunities for production line improvements and implement meaningful, impactful changes.
• Use computer systems for data entry, documentation, and production tracking, and learn new software programs as needed.
• Support general facility tasks such as warehouse assistance, packaging, and machine operation when required.
• Collaborate with site leadership and report directly to the supervisor on production status, issues, and improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area in both the assembly area and warehouse.
• Participate in site-specific training to learn equipment, processes, and quality requirements for the new production line.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of electro-mechanical assembly experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a foundational understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and service manuals.
• Hands-on experience with basic tools, wiring, and mechanical assembly in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools used for mechanical and electrical assembly.
• Familiarity with production line management, workflows, and manufacturing industry practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical hardware and wiring issues.
• Competence in quality assurance, quality control, and inspection processes.
• Computer proficiency, including Excel, general PC knowledge, and accurate data entry.
• Prior experience working with computer software beyond Microsoft Office.
• Ability to clearly explain assembly and build processes and the reasoning behind each step.
• Comfort working in a hands-on, labor-intensive role that requires movement across different stations and lines.
• Ability to report directly to a supervisor and communicate line performance, issues, and improvement ideas effectively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in production, production management, and machine operation.
• Background in mechanical assembly within the manufacturing industry.
• Exposure to building control panels with PLCs and drives (no programming required).
• Experience with quality inspection and adherence to established standards.
• Familiarity with warehouse operations and packaging activities.
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new computer systems and software.
• Comfort working in a climate-controlled assembly area and warehouse environment.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks rather than remain at a single assembly station all day.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
