Position Details Position Information Posting Number: TSU203777 Official TSU Title: Director of Recruitment Grant Title: N/A Job Description Summary / TWC Summary Texas Southern University ( TSU ) invites applications for theposition of Director of Recruitment within the Division ofEnrollment Management. The Director of Recruitment is a strategicleadership position responsible for developing, implementing, andmanaging TSU’s comprehensive student recruitment program. Thisposition provides end-to-end ownership of the University’senrollment recruitment strategy — from prospective-studentidentification through enrollment deposit — and serves as theDivision’s primary architect of territory management, lead-funnelconversion, dual-credit pipeline development, and transfer-studentrecruitment. The Director directly supervises the AdmissionCounselors and is responsible for their day-to-day direction,professional development, and performance. The Director of Recruitment reports to the Executive Director ofAdmissions and works in close partnership with the EnrollmentManagement Marketing and Communications Manager to ensurerecruitment strategies and outreach communications are fullyaligned. For transfer student recruitment, the Directorcollaborates directly with the Transfer Center to develop andcoordinate outreach strategies, build community collegerelationships, and support prospective transfer students throughthe enrollment process. This position plays a direct role in TSU’sability to grow enrollment, improve yield, and build the transferpipeline that Texas’s performance-based funding framework isspecifically designed to incentivize. The Director of Recruitmentis a key member of the Division’s leadership team and is expectedto represent TSU with professionalism and distinction in allinternal and external settings. Essential Duties Summary Recruitment Strategy and Planning Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate TSU’scomprehensive enrollment recruitment strategy, including annualrecruitment plans, territory assignments, yield targets, andconversion benchmarks aligned with the University’s enrollmentgoals. Design and manage a territory-based recruitment model coveringhigh schools, community colleges, dual-credit partners, and feederinstitutions across the Houston metropolitan area and key Texasmarkets. Establish and track annual recruitment goals by student type(first-time freshmen, transfer, dual-credit, adult learner),geography, academic program, and demographic segment. Analyze enrollment trends, market data, and competitorpositioning to identify opportunities and inform strategicrecruitment decisions; prepare and present recruitment performancereports to the Executive Director of Admissions on a regular basis. Collaborate with academic deans, department chairs, and facultyto develop program-specific recruitment strategies that align withTSU’s academic mission and enrollment priorities. Prospective Student Outreach and Yield Conversion Lead and coordinate all prospective student outreachactivities, including high school visits, college fairs, communityevents, campus preview days, open houses, and virtual recruitmentprograms. Manage the prospective-student communication funnel frominitial inquiry through enrollment deposit, in direct coordinationwith the Enrollment Management Marketing and CommunicationsManager, to ensure a seamless, compelling, and data-drivencommunication cadence. Develop and implement targeted yield strategies to convertadmitted students into enrolled students, with particular attentionto Pell-eligible, first-generation, and underrepresented studentpopulations. Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors,community college advisors, community-based organizations, andother partners who serve prospective TSU students in assignedmarkets. Represent TSU at recruitment events, college fairs, andcommunity programs with professionalism and a deep knowledge ofTSU’s academic programs, financial aid opportunities, student life,and outcomes. Transfer and Dual-Credit Recruitment Develop and implement a coordinated transfer recruitmentstrategy in alignment with Texas’s community collegeperformance-based funding incentives, which reward transfercompletions and create mutual alignment between TSU and itscommunity college partners. Collaborate closely with the TSU Transfer Center to alignrecruitment outreach with transfer advising services, ensuringprospective transfer students receive a seamless experience frominitial contact through enrollment; serve as the recruitmentliaison to the Transfer Center on all transfer pipeline andpartnership activities. Build and maintain relationships with community collegeadvising offices, transfer centers, and dual-credit programcoordinators at San Jacinto College, Houston Community College,Lone Star College, and other key feeder institutions, incoordination with the Transfer Center. Participate in transfer fairs, community college campus events,and transfer-focused programming to represent TSU and buildawareness of transfer pathways, articulation agreements, andfinancial aid opportunities. Develop and manage TSU’s dual-credit recruitment pipeline inpartnership with Houston-area school districts, ensuringprospective dual-credit students and their families have a clearpathway from dual enrollment to full enrollment at TSU . Track and report transfer and dual-credit recruitment metrics,including pipeline progress and conversion rates, to the ExecutiveDirector of Admissions. Data, Analytics, and Technology Partner with the Enrollment Management Data Analyst to develop,maintain, and utilize recruitment dashboards, funnel reports, andconversion analytics that support data-driven strategy and resourceallocation. Manage and optimize the use of TSU’s Customer RelationshipManagement ( CRM ) system for prospective student communication,lead tracking, event management, and funnel reporting; ensure allrecruitment staff are trained and consistently using the CRM . Use enrollment and market data to evaluate return on investmentof recruitment activities by territory, event type, and studentsegment; recommend and implement adjustments to the recruitmentstrategy based on data findings. Prepare and present regular recruitment reports, funnelanalyses, and yield projections to the Executive Director ofAdmissions to support enrollment forecasting and budgetplanning. Staff Leadership and Development Directly supervise the Admission Counselors; provide day-to-daydirection, ongoing coaching, professional development, performancemanagement, and accountability to ensure a high-performing,student-centered recruitment team. Assign and manage territory coverage, recruitment travelschedules, and event responsibilities across the AdmissionCounselor team to ensure comprehensive market coverage andequitable workload distribution. Conduct regular one-on-one supervision meetings, team meetings,and formal performance evaluations for all Admission Counselors;set clear performance expectations and goals aligned with Divisionrecruitment targets. Foster a team culture within the Office of Admissions built oncollaboration, accountability, student-centered service, andcontinuous improvement. Identify and facilitate professional development opportunitiesfor Admission Counselors, including training on enrollmentmanagement best practices, CRM utilization, diversity-focusedrecruitment strategies, and territory management. Assist the Executive Director of Admissions in recruiting,hiring, and onboarding new Admission Counselors as needed. Collaboration and Institutional Engagement Work closely with the Enrollment Management Marketing andCommunications Manager to ensure recruitment messaging, campaigns,and communication touchpoints are aligned with the Division’s brandstrategy and enrollment targets. Serve as the primary recruitment liaison to the TSU TransferCenter, maintaining regular communication on transfer studentpipelines, community college partnership activity, and sharedenrollment goals. Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid to ensureprospective students receive timely, accurate financial aidinformation and that financial aid packaging is integrated into theyield strategy. Partner with Academic Affairs and student support offices toensure recruitment messaging accurately reflects TSU’s academicprograms, support services, and student outcomes. Participate in Division and university-wide planning processes,committees, and events as assigned by the Executive Director ofAdmissions. Represent the Division of Enrollment Management at system-levelmeetings, professional association conferences, and other externalvenues as assigned. A degree in Higher Education, Marketing,Communications, Business, or a related field preferred. Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, StudentAffairs, Marketing, BusinessAdministration, or a closely relatedfield. Required Licensing/Certification N/A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Comprehensive knowledge of student recruitment strategies,enrollment management best practices, and the higher educationenrollment funnel from lead generation through enrollmentconfirmation. Strong strategic planning skills, with the ability to design,implement, and evaluate complex, multi-channel recruitment programsacross diverse student populations and geographic markets. Excellent data analysis skills, including the ability tointerpret enrollment trends, build reports from CRM and SISplatforms, and present data-driven recommendations to seniorleadership. Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent TSU compellingly to prospective students,families, school counselors, and community partners in bothone-on-one and group settings. Proven leadership and supervisory skills, including the abilityto motivate and develop a team, set clear performance expectations,provide coaching and feedback, and build a culture ofaccountability. Strong project management skills, with the ability to managemultiple recruitment campaigns, events, and initiativessimultaneously within established timelines and budgets. Demonstrated commitment to equity, access, and diversity instudent recruitment, with cultural competence in engaging withprospective students and families from underrepresented andhistorically marginalized communities. Proficiency with technology platforms commonly used inenrollment management, including CRM systems, Microsoft OfficeSuite, and virtual engagement tools. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings andweekends, during peak recruitment periods, and to travel locallyand statewide as required. Work Experience Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsibleexperience in higher education enrollment management, admissions,or student recruitment, with at least two (2) years in asupervisory or leadership role. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategicrecruitment plans, territory management programs, or yieldimprovement initiatives in a higher education setting. Experience managing a CRM platform (Slate, Salesforce,Ellucian, or equivalent) for prospective student communications,funnel tracking, and recruitment reporting. Demonstrated ability to analyze enrollment data, interpretfunnel metrics, and use data to inform recruitment strategy andresource allocation. Proven experience building and maintaining externalpartnerships with high schools, community colleges, orcommunity-based organizations for recruitment purposes. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally andstatewide for recruitment events, school visits, and communitycollege outreach activities. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of criticalinfrastructure, which may include communications systems, computernetworks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid,hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system. Preferred: Experience in enrollment management or recruitment at an HBCU,minority-serving institution, or urban-serving university with asignificant Pell-eligible and first-generation studentpopulation. Knowledge of Texas’s higher education landscape, includingTHECB transfer articulation frameworks, dual-credit programstructures, and community college transfer pathways. Experience developing and managing transfer student recruitmentprograms or dual-credit pipeline initiatives. Demonstrated record of improving enrollment yield, increasingtransfer student enrollment, or building high-impact communitycollege partnership programs. Familiarity with the Houston metropolitan higher educationmarket, including key feeder high schools, community collegesystems, and underserved communities. Experience with enrollment management software systems (Banner,PeopleSoft, or equivalent student information systems). Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
