Job Title: Obstetrics RN, Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Obstetrics Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 4 years in Obstetrics care preferred License: Current RN licensure Certifications: Current CPR certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and ACLS within one year of employment Must-Have: - Knowledge of or interest in learning labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursing care essentials. - Principles of sterile technique and infection control. - Skilled in technical aspects of mother/infant care. - Ability to perform effectively in highly stressful situations. - Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals. Description: The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of their practice. This position involves providing direct care to women in labor, during delivery, and postpartum. The RN also provides direct care to newborns, ensuring all aspects of maternal childcare are addressed. Responsibilities include performing assessments, monitoring the labor process, and preparing for C-sections and inductions. Proper documentation of nursing care is essential. The RN administers care during labor, post-delivery, and postpartum, including infant care and patient education. Preparing the delivery room, providing emotional support, and coordinating transfers are also key responsibilities. Administering IV medications and adhering to principles of infection control and general policies of the department is required. This role may involve long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting. Exposure to blood, body fluids, unpleasant sights, smells, and potential infectious diseases is possible.
