Description

The LPN/CMA plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care within a rural health/specialty clinic setting. This position provides nursing support and assisting with clinical administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will be versatile, compassionate, and able to work effectively in a small, close-knit healthcare environment. The LPN/CMA will work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to ensure the efficient delivery of care and services to the community.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner, including assessing patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc.).
  • Assist with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Administer medications, injections, and immunizations per prescribed orders, and monitor patients for reactions.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and other nursing procedures.
  • Collect specimens for lab tests and prepare them for transport or lab processing.
  • Assist with minor procedures (e.g., suturing, biopsies) and ensure proper sterilization of instruments.
  • Provide patient education on medications, treatment plans, preventative care, and lifestyle changes.
  • Assist with medical records management by updating patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure patient charts are complete and up-to-date with accurate documentation of care provided.
  • Answer patient inquiries, provide appointment reminders, and relay messages from physicians to patients.
  • Perform other office-based duties such as filing, faxing, and data entry.
  • Provide a compassionate and welcoming environment for patients, assisting with intake, ensuring comfort, and answering questions about procedures.
  • Assist patients with mobility or personal needs as necessary (e.g., escorting patients to exam rooms, assisting with dressing).
  • Prepare and clean the patient area: set up equipment, clean and facilitate room set up after a procedure.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medications, and other healthcare-related topics.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to create patient care plans, ensuring holistic and patient-centered care.
  • Assist with inventory management, ensuring medical supplies are stocked and available for use.
  • Participate in continuing education and training programs to maintain licensure and certification.
  • Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Certification:

Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan or Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited organization (e.g., AAMA, AMT, or NCCT).

BLS/CPR Certification required.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as an LPN or CMA in a healthcare setting, preferably in a rural or outpatient clinic environment.

Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and common clinical procedures.

Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting is preferred.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with patients and colleagues professionally and compassionately.

Strong clinical assessment and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Knowledge of rural healthcare challenges and the ability to adapt to various clinical tasks.
