Senior Tax Attorney - 5+ Years Tax Litigation Experience Required

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Litigation Attorney with a minimum of 5 years of experience in tax controversy and criminal and civil tax litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing clients before the IRS, U.S. Tax Court, and other relevant forums.

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent clients in IRS audits, appeals, and collection matters.
• Handle civil and criminal tax litigation, including trials and administrative proceedings.
• Develop legal strategies for resolving complex tax disputes.
• Prepare and file motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and provide written analyses on various tax controversy matters.
• Advise clients on potential tax liabilities and defense strategies.
• Negotiate settlements with taxing authorities.
• Stay updated on federal and state tax laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

• Active member in good standing with Michigan State Bar; additional admission to the U.S. Tax Court preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in tax controversy and civil/criminal tax litigation.
• Strong understanding of IRS administrative procedures and tax court practice.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

• LLM in Taxation.
• Experience with offshore voluntary disclosures and FBAR issues.
• Background in white-collar criminal defense is a plus.
