Early Head Start Teacher

The EHS Teacher must involve parents in every aspect of the program, working with them to establish both long- and short-term goals that will ensure the necessary readiness outcomes needed for school success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates respect for the capabilities, backgrounds, and cultural differences of families, children, coworkers, and the public consistent with trauma-informed practices, following the agency’s cultural competencies and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. Collaborates with First Steps, as needed, for children with disabilities. Develops and maintains respectful relationships with families and children to ensure their daily needs are met through responsive caregiving practices and ensures the classroom curriculum adheres to research-based, sound child development and early childhood educational principles. Implements curriculum that complies with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Performance Standards, Missouri accreditation requirements, state regulatory guidelines, and Center for Human Services policies and procedures, allowing implementation of both individual school readiness and group lesson plans that reflect parent input and cultural relevance. Provides non-supervisory oversight of support staff, substitutes, and new staff in daily classroom management tasks such as lesson plan implementation, classroom schedules, room arrangement, and classroom safety to meet all Head Start, state, and accreditation requirements and ratios. Educates and works with parents to ensure all health requirements and screenings are up to date as required by state childcare licensing and Head Start Performance Standards. Ensures ongoing communication with parents through Procare, phone calls, home visits, conferences, newsletters, flyers, and other information, including organizing and assisting with monthly parent meetings. Performs home visits, parent trainings and parent conferences as required to meet program requirements, and offers support to working families in the evenings when needed. Serves as a resource to families in identifying, referring, and assisting families in establishing connections to other supportive agencies, supporting families in attaining goals specified in the Individualized Family Partnership Plan, and helping parents improve skills to optimize the home environment and achieve self-sufficiency. Assists families with identifying the child’s school readiness goals, supports families’ observational skills and implements strategies for volunteer co‑teaching of these goals to support classroom learning objectives. In collaboration with supervisor and/or coach, develops own professional development goals and coaching/training plans and actively pursues them. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED with at least one of the following: completion of the Infant & Toddler CDA credential or comparable credential, a degree from an accredited college in a directly related field, or ability to obtain a CDA within 6 months of hire. Experience with infants and toddlers preferred. Must attend continuing training classes to broaden professionalism, education, and skills in childcare and child development as required by federal and state regulations; credentials must be maintained as a term of employment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills. Must maintain Infant Toddler CPR, First Aid, and AED certification. Must provide a valid driver’s license and proof of personal vehicle insurance. Undergo a medical exam and TB assessment prior to hire and every 5 years thereafter. Background screening, including fingerprinting, required prior to hire and every 5 years thereafter. Preferred Experience Knowledge of UKG platform, ChildPlus, Creative Curriculum, DRDP, and Head Start Performance Standards. Shift Full-time (35 hours/week), Monday–Friday, times to be determined.
