Electrical Engineer – Utility Scale Solar

Position Summary

Vanguard Energy Partners is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to support the design and execution of utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role will work closely with senior engineering, project management, and construction teams to support projects through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

The ideal candidate will have experience in renewable energy, power systems, or utility infrastructure projects. Utility-scale solar experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Support electrical engineering design for utility-scale solar and BESS projects
• Assist in the development and review of: Electrical drawing sets, Power system studies, Substation drawing sets, SCADA designs, Cable and conduit schedules, Grounding and system protection systems and Equipment specifications.
• Coordinate with precon, internal civil/mechanical engineering teams, project management, procurement, and construction teams
• Support utility interconnection and AHJ coordination efforts
• Assist with technical reviews of electrical equipment including: Inverters, Transformers, Switchgear, MV equipment, and SCADA system
• Review engineering calculations and power studies under senior engineering guidance
• Support field engineering, commissioning, and startup activities
• Ensure designs comply with NEC, IEEE, utility, and client design criteria
• Participate in design reviews and problem-solving discussions during project execution
• Support document control, as-built updates, and project closeout activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required
• 3–7 years of electrical engineering experience
• Renewable energy or utility infrastructure experience preferred
• Utility-scale solar experience strongly preferred
• Understanding of:
• Medium-voltage electrical systems
• Power distribution systems
• Utility interconnection requirements
• Electrical construction practices
• Familiarity with NEC and IEEE standards
• Experience with AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar engineering software preferred
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced EPC environment
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• EIT certification preferred
• Experience supporting solar PV or BESS projects during construction
• Familiarity with SCADA and monitoring systems
• Prior experience working with EPC contractors or renewable energy developers
• Familiarity with HV systems and substation design
