Project Architect

Project Architect - Albany, NY Area

Municipal & Federal Projects | $85,000-$115,000+ | Full-Time

USA Staffing Network is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm located in a northern suburb of Albany, NY .

We are seeking an experienced Project Architect who wants to do more than remain in a narrowly defined production role. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, take increasing ownership of projects, coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, contribute to project management, and mentor junior staff.

The ideal candidate is a Registered Architect, or an architect actively progressing toward registration, with 5-10+ years of broad, practical experience across multiple project types and phases. The client is particularly interested in candidates who combine strong technical capabilities with the ability and desire to grow into greater project leadership responsibility.

What You'll Do

You will work as part of a collaborative architecture and building systems team supporting a diverse mix of municipal and federal projects .

• Support and lead architectural projects from initial programming through design and construction
• Prepare architectural assessments, facility studies, feasibility studies, and programming reports
• Evaluate existing buildings and document architectural conditions and recommendations
• Perform building code reviews for new and existing facilities
• Develop architectural drawings, details, and construction documents
• Work in Revit and AutoCAD
• Coordinate with structural, engineering, drafting, specialty consultant, and other project disciplines
• Serve as a lead architect on multidisciplinary assignments as experience and project needs warrant
• Contribute to project planning, coordination, and management
• Communicate effectively with project team members, consultants, and stakeholders
• Help guide and mentor less-experienced team members
• Maintain hands-on technical and production involvement while taking on increasing project ownership
• Prepare clear, professional technical reports and written documentation

The role combines technical architecture, project delivery, multidisciplinary coordination, and leadership development rather than focusing exclusively on drafting or production.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture
• 5-10+ years of relevant architectural experience
• Registered Architect strongly preferred
• Candidates who are not yet licensed should be actively taking the architectural registration exams and close to completing the licensure process
• Broad, practical experience across multiple architectural project phases
• Experience with existing-building assessments and feasibility studies
• Understanding of New York State building codes and regulations
• Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects and deadlines
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary design teams
• Interest in growing into additional project management, project ownership, and mentoring responsibilities
• U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship

The client values breadth of experience over years alone . Architects who have worked across a variety of project types, building systems, project phases, and responsibilities are likely to be especially competitive.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an attractive opportunity for an architect who wants greater visibility and responsibility without giving up the resources of a larger multidisciplinary organization.

The architecture team is relatively small and works within a broader building systems environment that includes structural and drafting resources. That structure gives the Project Architect the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while collaborating with professionals across multiple disciplines.

Key advantages include:

• Project ownership: Take meaningful responsibility for projects instead of remaining one layer within a large architecture department
• Career growth: Expand into project management, mentoring, and broader leadership responsibilities
• Project variety: Work on municipal and federal assignments rather than repeatedly focusing on one narrow building type
• Multidisciplinary resources: Collaborate with architecture, engineering, structural, drafting, and other technical professionals
• Stable project platform: Benefit from a mix of public-sector work and federal project opportunities
• Visible impact: Join a smaller architecture group where an experienced architect can contribute quickly and meaningfully
• Professional development: Continue building technical, leadership, and project-management skills

The client is looking for someone who can remain technically involved while gradually assuming greater ownership of projects and helping develop other team members.

Compensation

Base Salary: $85,000-$115,000+

Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, licensure, technical depth, breadth of project experience, and overall fit.

The client is open to considering compensation above $115,000 for an especially strong candidate. Compensation is evaluated individually rather than strictly by years of experience.

A sign-on bonus may also be available depending on the candidate and circumstances, including candidates who may be relocating to the Capital Region.

The client offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

Travel

Travel is generally limited and planned.

Most travel consists of day trips within a few hours by car . There may also be occasional federal project meetings or charrettes requiring approximately three days to one week of travel .
