Assistant Athletic Trainer

divh2Assistant Athletic Trainer/h2pProvide first aid, emergency care, injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and physical reconditioning for students (and where applicable, school community members)./ppWork with Head Athletic Trainer to oversee, coordinate and/or conduct initial and ongoing health assessment of student athletes to ensure they are fit to play, including but not limited to annual required physical exams; ImPACT concussion and other required testing; and return to play clearance evaluations. Maintain records and treatment logs reflective of injury assessment, treatment and care provided./ppCommunicate and maintain relationships with coaches, parents, athletics staff, other Cary Academy employees (as applicable) and local medical sports injury specialists regarding the health of student athletes including, but not limited to athletic participation requirements; specific student health conditions, needs and accommodations; emergency and rehabilitation assessment and treatment; and medical referrals and consultation. Responsible for procuring athletic training assistance at home events as needed./ppProvide athletic training services for athletic practices, home games, home tournaments and playoffs, and travel to games and playoffs (as needed), including but not limited to ensuring teams have adequate hydration, medical equipment, and safety resources; attending on campus athletic activities; rendering first aid and medical treatment to athletes; and coordinating and communicating medical emergencies in accordance with school protocols. Refer severe athletic injuries to a licensed health care provider for full diagnosis and recommendations as necessary./ppMonitor and communicate weather and other environmental risks to coaches, athletics administration, campus operations personnel and other Cary Academy employees as needed to ensure safe playing conditions are maintained./ppWork with Head Athletic Trainer to maintain a safe, effective, and efficient athletic training program, including ensuring all equipment is inspected, preventatively maintained and sanitized on an ongoing basis; an adequate inventory of supplies is ordered, monitored and safe for use; and all reports and records are fully completed, up to date and filed and/or communicated as required./ppAdminister CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training as assigned./ppIn coordination with the school Nurse, assist with coverage for community events requiring medical support./ppProvide support to the academic program as requested, though PE classes or a dedicated sports medicine program./ppWork collaboratively with the Head Athletic Trainer and other Cary Academy medical, athletic and health professionals to design, implement and communicate health, safety and athletic training policies, protocols for the Athletics program, and other school programs and community initiatives./ppEngage actively in the schools diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism work in all aspects of your professional responsibilities and interactions in furtherance of Cary Academys commitment to equity and justice./ppAttend and actively participate in all required school professional development activities in areas to include, but not limited to, safety and security; diversity, equity, and inclusion; student learning and support; technology; and school operations./ppEngage authentically in processes of self-reflection and improvement of practice, including full participation in the schools Professional Growth and Renewal Program./ppComplete all required administrative and operational tasks and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and school policies and procedures as articulated in handbooks, operating guides and other school policy and procedure communications and documentation in a responsive and timely manner./ppUse designated technology assets and platforms as directed by school policies and procedures to allow for secure, effective, and collaborative school operations. Apply emerging technologies to position responsibilities as applicable./ppPlan and prepare appropriately for position responsibilities./ppDemonstrate regular, predictable, and reliable on-campus attendance./ppMinimum of a Bachelors degree in relevant field and state licensure in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners and National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. A Masters degree preferred in Athletic Training and state licensure in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners and the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certificaiton. Other Certification: CPR/AED/ Emergency Cardiac Care./ppAt least 3 years of full-time work experience in athletic training. Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements./ppExpertise in athletic training program operations./ppIn-depth understanding of the physical and mental challenges of interscholastic sports./ppStrong interpersonal skills that uphold the schools values of respect, integrity and compassion as well as contribute toward a learning and work environment that maintains and celebrates diversity, equity and inclusion. Certain work requirements, extracurricular responsibilities, or unplanned academic calendar changes could result in a need for a temporary modification of this schedule, including work on the weekends. The Athletic Trainer is required to be present at home athletic contests and attend other pre-season, post-season and regular seasons as directed by the Athletic Director. The Athletic Trainer will report to work each year at the beginning of the fall sports practices (typically 2 weeks before the beginning of the academic year), and is excused from duties, except for completion of year-end responsibilities and mandatory meetings, at the end of the spring season (typically 2 weeks before the end of the academic year)./ppThis position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week, but times may vary given the nature and seasonality of the position.
