Principal Applications Engineer

We are looking for a Principal Application Engineer to join our team. This fully remote role reports to the Sr Manager, Applications Engineering and will drive complex technical sales activities, develop customer relationships, and design distributed generation solutions.

Role and Responsibilities

• Lead technical sales activities and manage the pre‑sales solution development process.
• Build and maintain customer relationships, providing technical expertise through presentations and detailed engagements.
• Create conceptual designs and implement specifications to demonstrate solution feasibility.
• Define customer requirements, establish product specifications, and produce project‑specific contract inputs.
• Support the sales team with bid and proposal writing, addressing technical objections and securing approvals.
• Provide technical feedback to engineering and product management based on customer input.
• Define scope of work during pre‑sales, leveraging internal and external resources to design electrical, mechanical, and civil infrastructure connections between the Bloom Energy system, customer site, and utility.
• Travel 25‑50% as needed to support sales objectives.

Qualifications and Desired Characteristics

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 10‑15 years of customer‑facing technical support experience in power systems and energy, including specifying, designing, and proposing on‑site distributed generation architectures.
• 10+ years of experience in power generation technologies (e.g., gas turbines, reciprocating engines, battery storage, wind, solar, or fuel cell applications).
• Knowledge of applicable codes (NEC, IBC, local codes), standards (IEEE), and regulations (local, national, or international).
• Background in energy‑related technology and solutions.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and critical‑thinking skills.
• Professional Engineering license is favorable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation

Salary range: $137,600.00 – $206,400.00, plus incentive bonus and equity. Additional benefits are offered in standard company packages.
