Job Details Job Title: Assistant Coach Softball | Location: UWG Recruiting Location | Regular/Temporary: Regular | Job ID: 299918 Job Summary Reporting to the Head Softball Coach, the Assistant Softball Coach (Pitching Coach) assists in all phases of a Division I intercollegiate softball program, with primary responsibility for the instruction, development, and management of the pitching staff. The position supports academic achievement, athletic success, sportsmanship, and adherence to the mission, policies, and procedures of the University of West Georgia, the United Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. Responsibilities Pitching Instruction & Skill Development Lead all pitching specific instruction, including mechanics, pitch development, spin efficiency, location work, and individualized training plans. Design and implement daily pitching workouts, bullpen sessions, and competitive drills. Stay current with modern pitching analytics, technology, and training techniques to enhance performance. Oversee practice setup and coordinate pitching focused drills within full team, offensive, and defensive practice structures. Academic Success & Student Athlete Support Monitor academic progress of the pitching staff and broader team. Collaborate with Athletics Academic Support to determine class schedules, study hall needs, and individualized academic plans. Foster student athlete well being, accountability, and personal development. Program Administration Assist the Head Coach with program operations, including budget oversight, ordering pitching specific equipment, managing bullpens and practice resources, and ensuring NCAA compliance. Support team travel logistics (hotels, meals, transportation) and coordinate pitching specific preparation on the road. Lead scouting and film review for opposing hitters and pitching matchup planning; oversee filming of bullpens, practices, and games for development review. Recruiting Responsibilities Recruit student athletes, with primary emphasis on identifying and evaluating pitching prospects. Coordinate recruiting communication (email, phone, text) and on campus visits. Maintain detailed evaluation reports and follow all NCAA and institutional recruiting policies. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree 2 years of previous experience playing or coaching softball. Experience developing pitchers at the collegiate level. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Familiarity with pitching specific analytics, technology, and performance systems. Proposed Salary $40,000 - $42,000 annually. Paid on a monthly basis. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Abilities: Ability to make sound decisions regarding recruiting, athlete safety, and competitive performance; errors may result in NCAA violations or competitive disadvantages. Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 15lbs. Office Environment – work normally performed in a typical interior work environment. Outdoor Environment – work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of softball pitching mechanics, pitch design, movement patterns, and arm care programming. Skills: Strong teaching skills for player development, communication, and instruction. Ability to work outdoors, travel, and manage demanding schedules.
