MWCustoms is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Automotive Paint Prep Technician to join our production team in Valley Center, Kansas!

We specialize in high-end custom automotive painting, color-matched truck parts, headlights, taillights, tow mirrors, grilles, and complete custom truck builds.

With over 13 years in business and more than 20,000 orders completed, we've built our reputation on quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

We're operating out of a brand-new, 10,000-square-foot, fully climate-controlled facility , complete with air conditioning in the summer, modern equipment, and a professional automotive paint booth.

We offer a fun, fast-paced work environment where you'll work alongside people who take pride in building some of the best-looking custom trucks and automotive components in the industry.

This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with real automotive paint preparation or body shop experience who can contribute immediately.

Job Responsibilities

• Sand, scuff, clean, and properly prepare automotive parts for paint.
• Perform detailed masking and taping of parts before painting.
• Identify and correct minor surface imperfections before parts enter the paint booth.
• Prepare plastic and metal automotive components for primer, sealer, basecoat, and clearcoat.
• Inspect parts for proper preparation and paint readiness.
• Organize, stage, and prepare parts for upcoming paint booth loads.
• Assist with disassembly and reassembly of automotive components as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
• Work closely with painters and production management to maintain consistent workflow.
• Follow quality-control procedures to ensure every part meets MWCustoms standards.

Additional Skills That Set You Apart

We're especially interested in candidates who bring more than basic prep experience.

• Experience mixing automotive paint, primers, sealers, and clearcoats.
• Ability to operate spray guns and apply primers or sealers.
• Experience staging and organizing paint booth production loads.
• Minor bodywork, filler application, and surface repairs.
• Experience with custom automotive paintwork and refinishing.
• Ability to disassemble and reassemble automotive parts.
• Familiarity with professional automotive paint systems and equipment.

Requirements

• Previous professional automotive paint prep, collision repair, refinishing, or body shop experience required.
• Strong sanding, masking, and surface preparation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and stay productive.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
• Experience using hand tools, sanders, and automotive prep equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds as needed.
• Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment.
