Security Officer

Job Description The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers, typically in an office or ambulatory clinic setting. This position is responsible for monitoring visitor or patient activity, monitoring the premises and surrounding areas, enforcing policy, providing assistance and direction, responding to emergencies, and protecting employees, visitors, and Intermountain property. Essential Functions Operates and monitors security technology systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems. Ensures proper functioning and maintenance of security equipment. De-escalation: Uses verbal and non‑verbal strategies to calm individuals and resolve conflicts peacefully, minimizing the need for physical force. Dealing with violent patients: Intervenes to protect the safety of everyone involved when patients act aggressively or violently, including using physical restraints when necessary. Regulatory compliance: Ensures compliance with regulations such as HIPAA when reporting crimes or incidents, disclosing only the minimum necessary information to law enforcement. Bomb threat/suspicious package responses: Trained to respond to bomb threats and suspicious packages, following protocols to ensure the safety of the facility. Participation in drills: Engages in exercises like infant abduction and active shooter scenarios to prepare staff for real‑life situations. Conducting searches: Performs respectful and safe searches of patients and searches for narcotics, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Safety inspections: Conducts inspections of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility safety to mitigate risks. Parking enforcement: Enforces parking regulations to ensure safety and accessibility, enhancing the patient experience. Investigations: Collaborates with HR and law enforcement to conduct investigations, following protocols for disclosing patient information and ensuring facility safety. Skills Law Enforcement Parking Public Safety Lockout Tagout Fire Drills Key Control Exterior Design Patient Transportation Communication Situational Awareness Decision Making Minimum Qualifications Current driver’s license (if applicable). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire. Must be at least 21 years of age. Preferred Qualifications One‑year previous law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security experience. Physical Requirements Must see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs. Frequent customer interactions require effective communication of spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. Must lift, transport, pull, and push equipment. Must work on hands and knees and bend to set up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including items up to and including heavy weights. Must drive a vehicle, which requires sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. Location Intermountain Health Sanpete Valley Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Utah Compensation Scheduled weekly hours: 36 hours. Hourly range: $20.45 – $27.04 (dependent on experience).
