About the Position The Datacenter Technician is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the datacenter. Responsibilities include the installation, acceptance, and upkeep of a variety of telecommunication equipment, across cabinets, equipment, cross‑connects, and vendor maintenance of critical infrastructure. The role involves project installation, testing, and troubleshooting of telecommunications infrastructure components such as ladder racks, fiber guides, MDFs, IDFs, switches, routers, and related cabling. What you do daily Expert working knowledge of copper (UTP, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) and fiber optic media types (MMF, SMF, 50 micron, 62.5 micron), industry standards and applications, and use cases (e.g., Ethernet, Fiber Channel, SONET, TDM). Installs, provisions, tests, and maintains DS0 through OC12 services and equipment to support network and customer requirements. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs customer and network circuits. Install cable runs, patch panels, and cross‑connects. Performs cable lacing per datacenter standards. Provides hands‑on experience with installation of both copper and fiber media types. Utilizes cable testing systems to ensure operational integrity. Assesses and troubleshoots both copper and fiber cable media (e.g., dB loss, attenuation, breaks, termination problems, transmission characteristics). Possesses working knowledge of fiber optic and copper test equipment. Understands network layouts, Cisco hardware, and layer‑1 topologies. Familiar with datacenter network hardware (Ethernet, Fiber Channel interfaces). Applies pertinent ISO standards (ANSI‑942, ANSI‑568) related to datacenter cable infrastructure. Executes customer support requests, from server reboot to complex telecommunications equipment troubleshooting and updates in the order management system. Leads troubleshooting processes and repairs during equipment failures, providing recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitors and responds to security, environmental, and equipment monitoring systems. Records readings from electrical and cooling equipment and maintains related reports. Tracks capacity of MMR, MDF, IDF, patch panels, and cables. Maintains detailed site documentation of customer cross‑connects and power circuits for provisioning. Ensures cleanliness of the datacenter and common areas. Upholds security procedures for site and datacenter access, including staffing the security office, managing access requests, escorting vendors, and customers to secure areas. Available for rotating 7/24 on‑call support and flexible shift scheduling. What makes you a good fit (Qualifications) BICSITechnician credential preferred. Minimum 2‑3 years of experience in similar critical facilities. High School Diploma required. Low‑voltage installation & troubleshooting experience is an advantage. Fiber optic splicing experience is an advantage. Functional knowledge of Inside Plant (ISP) disciplines; fiber optic and electrical cabling and labeling conforming to telecom industry standards. Strong technical and mechanical background with experience on the latest generation transport gear, critical infrastructure (generators, HVAC systems, high‑voltage electrical systems, DC power plants, etc.) found in telecommunications facilities. Knowledge of Visio and MS Office. Analytical troubleshooting skills. Ability to follow specified policies and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced 24/7 environment with flexibility to work after‑hours and weekends when necessary. Autonomous with team spirit.
