About Black Box Safety

Black Box Safety is a veteran-owned California distributor of safety products, PPE, and MRO supplies. Our customers are public agencies, utilities, and contractors. Founded in 2017 by Jackson Dalton, a medically retired Marine. Headquartered in El Cajon and with established customer relationships across the state, Black Box Safety is looking for a Southern California Industrial Sales Rep to grow the territory.

The job

You will own a Southern California territory of industrial, facilities, utility, government, and contractor accounts. You develop the relationships, grow profitable revenue, and stay on the account after the first order, especially for replenishment. About four days a week are spent in the field at yards, warehouses, facilities shops, and job sites.

• You live in Southern California with easy access to customer territory
• We already ship into this geography. We need a driven sales representative, eager to create net new business with recurring revenue
• You will have a real book and a short line to leadership. You will not be the eleventh rep on the same accounts.
• Replenishment is the compounding asset. Every storeroom you get on a cadence is commission that shows up again next month without a new pitch.
• Nobody hands you a queue. We measure accounts that reorder.

What you will do

• Call on assigned and prospective accounts to grow revenue, keep the business, and win the next reorder.
• Build a territory plan: who you see, in what order, and a forecast you can defend.
• Know how public agencies and contractors buy, through cooperatives, GSA, open market, and small-business programs, and put the right path on the quote. Inside support handles the paperwork.
• Promote Black Box Safety's active contract vehicles such as Omnia, Sourcewell, GSA and NASPO that can be utilized by SLED agencies to purchase supplies.
• Work with channel partners at companies, such as Grainger, to strategize and further develop key accounts
• Work with leadership on pricing, packets, and anything that needs a company signature.
• Keep accounts, contacts, and follow-up in the CRM.
• Represent the company at vendor days, site visits, and trade shows.
• Bring back field intel: who else is on the account, when contracts renew, which prime just won work nearby.

This seat does not cover sworn law enforcement, California state agencies, CSU or UC, or armor contracts.

What you bring

Required

• Three or more years of outside B2G sales on a territory you ran yourself. Industrial distribution, MRO, safety, PPE, facilities, utilities, or government contractors is the pattern we want.
• A record of turning a new or thin account into repeat orders.
• Comfort working a purchasing desk, a shop floor, and a job-site trailer.
• Four days a week with customers, with occasional overnights in Southern California.
• Valid California driver's license, acceptable driving record, and a reliable vehicle.
• Everyday use of a CRM, email, Excel, and Teams.
• Ability to lift about 50 pounds of samples and pass a background check for government, military, and contractor sites.

Preferred

• Selling MRO, PPE, or safety into utilities, cities, counties, federal agencies, or primes.
• Familiarity with public-sector or contractor purchasing: cooperatives, GSA, purchase orders, small-business goals.
• Existing relationships in San Diego County facilities, utilities, Navy/USMC, or local contractors.
• Military or first-responder background.

Compensation and benefits

• Base $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and relationships.
• Uncapped commission. On-target earnings $130,000 to $160,000.
