Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Computer Vision

Salary: $189,308 - 389,753 per year Requirements:

• We are looking for research engineers or scientists with experience building and training computer vision models.
• We strongly prefer experience with multimodal representations and visual language modeling.
• We want a proven record of research output, such as publications or open-source contributions, and/or experience shipping machine learning models to production.
• We require practical experience with large-scale model training and modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• We value strong teamwork skills and the ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving environment.
• We seek an M.S. or PhD in machine learning or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• We prefer candidates with publications at top machine learning conferences.
• We look for experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar tools for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring.

• We prototype advanced visual encoders that support our recommender systems and internal visual language models.
• We experiment with billion-scale datasets and work hands-on with large-scale GPU computing.
• We build adaptable visual reasoning tools, including composed image retrieval, promptable detection and segmentation, and instruction-tuned embedding and generative models.
• We review research papers, contribute to team discussions, and help shape our overall visual generative strategy.
• We gather relevant visual instruction training data that can be reused across multimodal representation, composed image retrieval, text-to-image generation, and visual language modeling.
• We publish and share our work through conferences, paper submissions, and blog posts.
• We mentor junior researchers and research interns within Pinterest Labs.
