Job Details Job ID: 5286955 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Re-Posted: Jan 21, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Department: Northborough Extended Day Program Job Title: Group Leader FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Site Coordinator/Program Director General Description The NEDP Group Leader is a member of a team that is responsible for providing a safe, enriching, and respectful after school childcare community for school-aged students in grades K through 5 at one of the four elementary schools in Northborough. The qualifications and specifications of this position include demonstrating thorough knowledge and execution of the Department of Early Education and Care regulations and policies, communicating effectively with the Site Coordinator, staff, and volunteers; and developing and assisting in implementing program activities. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Associate degree and at least three months of experience working with school‑age children; or High School diploma or equivalent and at least six months’ experience working with school‑age children. Including three months’ supervised experience at a school‑age childcare program; or Nine months’ experience with school‑age children including three months supervised experience at a school‑age childcare program. An understanding of positive behavioral approaches and Positive Youth Development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and people skills. Demonstrates professionalism with staff, parents/guardians, and participants. The capacity to work independently. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and engagement skills with a challenging population. Must have the ability to empathize with others. Must have experience working with elementary age children. Must have reliable transportation. Exhibits sensitivity in working with children and families. Current First Aid/CPR certification within 60 days of hire. Must be able to pass all background checks (CORI, SORI, DCF, Fingerprinting, etc.) Essential Job Duties Available to work whenever the program is in session, also on Early Release Days and occasional full day vacation weeks (onsite 2:15pm‑6:15pm daily for Zeh and Proctor Schools and 2:45pm‑6:15pm for Lincoln and Peaslee Schools). Work with the Site Coordinator in developing and implementing programs of activities that support sports, games, math, science, arts and humanities, language, honesty, friendship, respect, caring, confidence, courage, sharing, cooperation, kindness, and empathy. Assist with and lead activities. Help to set up at the beginning of the program and clean up at the end of the day. Supervise and engage with children during activities. Assist Site Coordinator in filling out Incident/Accident reports, as necessary. Assist Site Coordinator in maintaining attendance and sign‑out daily/weekly. Establish a good rapport with families and provide feedback on child’s experiences in the program. Ensure the spaces used by the group are left clean and organized. Utilize positive behavior management techniques. Provide high‑quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for students. Assist in the general preparation and housekeeping of the environment. Adapt to changes in programming. Assist with the supervision of Assistant Group Leaders and volunteers. Ensure order within the groups at all times, including snack and activity times. Know and follow all emergency procedures associated with the program. Promote an atmosphere that encourages healthy and productive learning and play and fosters positive self‑esteem in children. Treat all students and colleagues with dignity and respect. Be culturally competent and provide an inclusive environment for all learners and colleagues. Assist the site coordinator with execution of age‑appropriate activities on a daily basis. Enforce all policies set by the Department of Early Education and Care. Attend mandatory monthly meetings and Professional Development Trainings. Maintain high standards of professional ethics and confidentiality. Maintain high standards in all interactions with children, families, and other staff. Review all behavior plans with group leaders to ensure implementation of the plan for those children who need extra support to participate in the program. Supervise all activities in a way that ensures safety. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community. Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions. This position has a six‑month probationary period. Consistent and on‑time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students. Other duties as needed. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work Environment: Work is generally performed in a school/office environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after school meetings. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the group leader is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The group leader is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The group leader is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. Must be able to navigate uneven terrain in the form of sand, hills, concrete and woods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close‑up vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
