$24-$26/ Hour
At Retro Recess, we are looking for a Lead Cook who is ready to take command of our kitchen and bring the menu to life. We will be serving quick order comfort food that will bring back memories of grandma's cooking. We are still early in our menu design so you can play a pivotal role in developing our concept. As the Lead Cook you'll be the bridge between our management and the line, ensuring every plate hits the window is a winner.
Key Responsibilities
- Command the Pass: Lead the line during peak lunch and dinner rushes, managing ticket flow and ensuring ticket times stay low.
- Quality Control: Ensure every dish meets our retro-chic standards for taste and presentation.
- Prep & Inventory Management: Oversee daily prep lists, assist with weekly inventory counts, and help manage COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) by reducing waste.
- Team Leadership: Train new hires on technique, speed, and the Retro Recess "flavor profile."
- Health & Safety: Maintain a spotless kitchen. You are responsible for enforcing DOH(Department of Health) standards at all times.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the General Manager to test new "Limited Edition" menu items and seasonal specials.
What You Bring to the Game
- Experience: 2+ years in a high-volume NYC kitchen, with at least 1 year in a Lead or Supervisory role.
- Certification: Must hold a valid NYC Food Protection Certificate.
- Technical Skill: Expert-level grill, sauté, and fryer skills. You should be able to work any station.
- Stamina: This is a high-energy environment. You should be comfortable on your feet for 8-10 hour shifts.
- Communication: Fluent in English, some Spanish would be a plus
- The Vibe: A positive, solution-oriented attitude. We don’t do "kitchen nightmares"—we do teamwork.
- Competitive NYC Pay: $ 24/hour
