Physician Assistant - UPMC Altoona Stroke & Neurointervention

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a Full‑Time Physician Assistant to help support Altoona Stroke & Neurointervention. The Stroke Service assists in treating ICU and surgical patients, attending emergent stroke codes and floor patients. This role is responsible for responding to stroke codes during daytime hours to help provide emergent care for suspected stroke patients. Hours Three 12-hour shifts. Position Specifics We are recruiting a team of four inpatient APPs who will work alongside the physicians to run the Stroke Service. APPs are trained to read neuro imaging including CT and MRI, and interpret necessary laboratory work. Initial training period schedule will be five 8‑hour shifts then transition to three 12‑hour shifts. Department Details The stroke team has four physicians – two of which are neurointerventionalists who specialize in intracranial clot removal in emergent large vessel occlusion strokes. The APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The APP has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession. The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes. Responsibilities Applies basic professional practice knowledge and skills appropriate for practice setting. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in documentation. Demonstrates critical thinking in all areas of professional practice. Formulates a plan of care that considers individual patient needs. Demonstrates initiative and seeks formal and informal opportunities to improve clinical practice.
