Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Pediatric Cancer Center (Infusion Room and Hematology/Oncology Clinic) department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to pediatric and adult patients with a variety of Ambulatory needs. Patient conditions include, but are not limited to: Hematology, Oncology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Immunology, Gastrointestinal, Genetic, Renal, and Pulmonary disorders. Patients may have a variety of medical, surgical, and procedural needs. Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisors are registered nurses who are responsible for the operation of the nursing unit over a specific time period. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills on which to base judgments and make decisions, organizing abilities to direct nursing tasks and operations, and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and the work of others. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor accepts responsibility for, and is accountable for, his/her own nursing practice. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development. Registered nurses must be knowledgeable and skillful in performing the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor role. A registered nurse who assumes the role of Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also assumes the responsibility inherent to the role. Three fundamental responsibilities for Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor include planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities. In addition, the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with American Nurses' Association Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification. Valid California Registered Nurse License American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or a Bachelor’s degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing (MSN). Three (3) Years recent Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing experience Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately. Preferred Qualifications Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON), ANCC Pediatrics, CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse), or Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) One (1) year of recent nursing leadership experience Pediatric Oncology Procedural Knowledge. Department Specific Job Scope Registered Nurses in the Pediatric Infusion Room at the UC Davis Health Comprehensive Cancer Center provide specialized outpatient infusion care to children, adolescents, and young adults across a broad range of specialties, including but not limited to oncology, hematology, immunology, gastroenterology, neurology, endocrine, and genetics. The unit operates fourteen infusion spaces and serves a diverse patient population with varying medical complexity. Duties may include, but are not limited to: drawing labs, central line care, administration of a variety of infusions, chemotherapy, and blood products; patient and family education; monitoring for and management of infusion reactions; collaboration with an interdisciplinary team; and coordination of care to support safe and efficient patient flow.
