Admissions Counselor

Admission positions represent the University and its programs to prospective students, their families, high school guidance counselors and teachers through on and off campus visits, phone calling and special events. Admission staff are responsible for being proactive in developing relationships that lead to successful recruitment of Loyola students within a specified geographic territory. Extensive travel in the fall and spring with some weekends required. In addition, these positions will be responsible for special projects assigned by the Director. Admissions based positions are campus-based in New Orleans, LA. Counseling and recruiting students in a manner that respects the integrity and best interests of the students while effectively recruiting students for the University. Develop and maintain a full working knowledge of the University and effectively communicate that knowledge to students. Understand professional roles and responsibilities that provide for the proper treatment of students and successful recruitment of students. Inform and counsel students regarding: admission process, financial aid opportunities and processes, academic programs, campus life, student services, career opportunities, and other facets of the college selection process. Developing and maintaining a thorough, detailed and accurate knowledge of college programs and services and promoting these services to prospective students and other stakeholders. Developing and maintaining positive, collaborative working relationships with other divisions and college staff. Projecting and maintaining a positive, a professional image of the college when meeting or talking with students or other outside contacts. Other duties as assigned Assisting others, as necessary, in keeping work current, meeting deadlines, or spreading workloads equitably. Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of one year experience in admissions, sales, public-relations, or other customer-service related positions. Student worker experience will also be accepted. Initiative, imagination and organizational qualities to assist in the development of programs and promote the university to various publics (i.e. prospective students and parents, secondary school administrators and teachers, etc.) so as to matriculate a sufficient number of qualified freshman and transfer students each year. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to individuals and large groups of prospective students and their parents, secondary school personnel, alumni, current students and their parents, as well as administrators and faculty. Willingness to acquire an understanding of the Jesuit commitment to excellence in education, diversity of the student body, social service,and the liberal arts and sciences traditions. The goals and priorities of a value-centered education must be reflected in any recruitment program and presentations. Ability to develop congenial and productive working relationships with Loyola administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Projecting and maintaining a positive, a professional image of the college when meeting or talking with students or other outside contacts. Willingness to travel extensively, often working beyond the normal 8:30 - 4:45 day and Monday to Friday week. Ability to work with a high degree of independence within institutional and division policies, procedures and performance guidelines. Handling sensitive and confidential information in a businesslike manner, in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Must be a licensed driver of an automobile with an acceptable driving record as determined by Loyola University’s Office of Risk Management. Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience with Slate by Technolutions or other Admissions CRM Fluency in a second language (Spanish preferred) Experience recruiting for a private university or college Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to carry and transport 40 pounds of materials and/or equipment. Must be a licensed driver of an automobile with an acceptable driving record as determined by Loyola University’s Office of Risk Management.
