Staff Software Engineer, Google Workspace Data Export Platform

Own the overarching architecture, interfaces, and data models across multiple services.Define the technical roadmap, identifying scalability bottlenecks, architectural risks, and structural tech debt before they impact velocity or reliability.Provide technical direction and guidance to individual project/stream tech leads (typically mid-level and executive engineers), ensuring localized technical decisions do not conflict with organizations wide goals.Identify cross-team architectural and technical dependencies, resolve conflicting technical priorities, and eliminate single points of failure.Write code for high-risk proof-of-concepts, shared foundational libraries, or critical-path components while delegating day-to-day feature implementation to Development teams.Minimum qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.8 years of experience programming in Java.5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.3 years of experience with software design and architecture.Preferred qualifications:Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.8 years of experience with system architecture and leading cross-functional engineering projects.3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.Experience building or scaling distributed systems handling massive datasets (petabyte-scale).Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another.
