Sr. Software Engineer, Backend/AI (Remote)

Salary: $155,000 - 170,000 per year Requirements:

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on backend development.
• Proven ability to design, build, and own APIs and backend services, rather than primarily integrating existing APIs.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages, such as Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted programming tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools.
• Understanding of AI-assisted development workflows, including code generation, debugging, testing, refactoring, and validating AI-generated code.
• Experience with production databases, data modeling, SQL or NoSQL technologies, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, GitHub pull requests, Docker, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience with automated testing, code reviews, API versioning, troubleshooting, and software development best practices.
• Knowledge of secure coding, authentication, authorization, and application security principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership, and ability to work independently within a collaborative team.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship; visa sponsorship is unavailable.
• Preferred: Experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate and Lambda; observability tools; frontend technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS; service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, and scalable application design; mentoring engineers and influencing architecture or engineering standards; and incorporating AI coding tools into established workflows while maintaining quality, security, and reliability.

• Design, develop, and own backend APIs, services, and application architecture using Python, Node.js, Java, or similar technologies.
• Use AI-assisted programming tools across the software development lifecycle to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, refactoring, and problem-solving.
• Design and optimize relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, query optimization, and production performance tuning.
• Build, deploy, monitor, and maintain cloud applications, emphasizing AWS, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Create secure, well-tested, maintainable software using modern engineering practices, automated testing, and code reviews.
• Implement and support CI/CD pipelines, containerized applications, and automated deployment processes.
• Apply security-first development practices, including secure API design, authentication, authorization, and OWASP guidance.
• Work with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and advance effective development practices.
• Find and pursue improvements to application performance, system reliability, engineering workflows, and development efficiency.
