Compensation: $2,500 gross for the full Summer Jazz Academy program. Compensation also includes room, board, and meals provided throughout the residency.

Position Description

The Residence Life Facilitator (RLF ) provides leadership and oversight of all residential life operations for the Summer Jazz Academy (SJA). The RLF directly supervises the Resident Assistant (RA) team and ensures a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive residential environment for high school students ages 15–18 throughout the two-week program.

The RLF serves as the primary residential leader on campus, working closely with program leadership and staff to oversee supervision, scheduling, student support, crisis response, policy enforcement, and community development within the residence halls.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supervision & Leadership

• Directly supervise, mentor, and support the Resident Assistant (RA) team.
• Develop and manage RA duty schedules, nightly coverage, and daily assignments.
• Lead RA meetings, daily debriefs, and ongoing training throughout the program.
• Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to RAs regarding student engagement, professionalism, conflict resolution, and policy enforcement.

2. Residential Operations & Administration

• Oversee all daily residential operations, including check-ins, curfews, safety protocols, and student accountability systems.
• Ensure consistent enforcement of all residential policies and community standards.
• Serve as the primary liaison to program leadership regarding residential life updates, concerns, and incident escalation.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of incidents, concerns, and follow-up actions involving students or staff.

3. Student Support & Crisis Response

• Serve as the primary escalation point for student issues beyond RA scope.
• Provide conflict mediation and support for students navigating personal, social, or behavioral challenges.
• Respond to emergencies, medical situations, and critical incidents in accordance with program protocols.
• Maintain visibility and presence within residential spaces to support student wellbeing and safety.

4. Community Building

• Collaborate with RAs to support a positive, inclusive, and engaged residential community.
• Oversee and support implementation of community-building activities, floor meetings, and student engagement initiatives.
• Foster an environment that promotes respect, accountability, and student growth.

5. Professional Expectations

• Model professionalism, maturity, and strong leadership for staff and students.
• Remain calm and effective in high-pressure or rapidly changing situations.
• Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and program leadership across departments.
• Support logistical and operational needs of the residential program as required.
• Maintain personal wellbeing and balance while fulfilling program responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to reside on campus for the duration of the program (July 11–26, 2026).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overnight shifts, and weekends.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-pressure situations.
