Lead Preschool Teacher

Position Overview Provides direct and indirect educationally related services to all students. Responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum under the guidelines of ECEAP Performance Standards and Early Achievers. This position pertains to all children enrolled in the program. All positions include instructional and supervisory duties. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited institution and a minimum of one year of successful experience working in a preschool or kindergarten. Valid Washington State elementary teaching certificate with an endorsement in early childhood education or early childhood special education and one year of successful experience working with preschool-age children. Associate or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education and a minimum of two years successful experience working in a preschool or kindergarten. Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Experience with children from low‑income families in an educational setting is preferred. Valid first aid/CPR card. Negative TB test. DCYF portable background check. Within 90 days of hire must have health clearance, immunizations, and other required training as per DCYF licensing regulations. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate discipline techniques for young children. Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, children, parents, and volunteers. Self‑directed, motivated, punctual, and flexible. Ability to work as a team member. Effective organization and time‑management skills. Provide training and support to volunteers. Follow directions/guidance from principal, coach, or ECEAP Coordinator. Essential Job Functions Curriculum Planning: Design, implement, and collaborate with Special Service teaching staff and specialists, using documentation in accordance with ECEAP Performance Standards and Early Achievers. Incorporate Creative Curriculum, 2nd Steps, and Pyramid Model. Manage the daily classroom program including music, meals, group projects, free choice time, and student supervision. Parent Interactions: Encourage and support family involvement in all program aspects, including home visits, parent/teacher conferences, and classroom volunteering. Classroom Preparation: Organize and prepare the classroom and materials according to the planned program; maintain equipment and a safe, sanitary environment. Guidance: Interact positively with all children to support individual learning and emotional needs; instruct on nutrition, self-care, social, motor, cognitive, and language skills; facilitate small group activities. Family‑Style Meal Services: Prepare and serve snacks and meals; facilitate mealtime service and documentation of peer interactions and learning. Health/Safety Supervision: Knowledge of health plans and medications; administer first aid; enforce safety procedures and emergency protocols; monitor health habits; inspect environment for hazards. Record Keeping: Maintain daily attendance/meal count; record children and family data per federal and ECEAP standards. Supervision: Monitor classroom staff, volunteers, and students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment; respond to emergencies as needed. Professional Development: Complete required MERIT training and other professional development activities as specified. Team Player: Contribute to communication, teamwork, and mutual support among staff and families; stay informed of program changes. Attendance: Maintain regular attendance; adhere to absence protocol to meet adult‑child ratio requirements. Attend early learning preschool meetings and activities, including some evenings. Follow universal precautions in caring for hygiene needs, including diapering. Perform other duties as assigned.
