Bus Monitor – Addison Central School District Job Description: The Bus Monitor provides support to licensed bus drivers to ensure the safety, well‑being, and discipline of students during transportation. Duties involve assisting students with boarding and alighting, monitoring bus etiquette, maintaining a clean environment, and providing special assistance to physically challenged students. Typical Work Activities Assist students to climb aboard and alight from the bus Assist younger students to cross streets and highways safely Maintain order among students on the bus and exercise appropriate discipline as needed Ensure that students are seated while the bus is in motion for optimum safety Provide special assistance in the loading, transporting, and unloading of physically challenged students Assist students and driver as needed Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent diploma One year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience supervising children or youth Minimum age of 19 years old (NYSED regulations) Background check and fingerprint clearance through NYS Skills & Knowledge Good knowledge of methods and techniques used in attending to the mobility needs of young people with special needs Working knowledge of the various bus routes in the district and their stopping places Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with students and others Ability to maintain discipline among students Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions Ability to perform moderately heavy lifting Patience in dealing with young people Dependability Tact and courtesy Good powers of observation and good judgment Neatness Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE/AA).
