Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Night Shifts Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: - Surgical experience - Post-operative care experience - Early ambulation experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical setting. The unit has a total of 30 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urological procedures, and abdominal surgeries. Additional patient types include bariatric patients, medical overflow, and management of drains and colostomies. Experience with heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPN preferred. A Charge Nurse is present on both shifts, with occasional responsibilities for a low acuity assignment. Patient care technicians are available, typically with a ratio of 1:12. Registered Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment. Remote telemetry technicians are available to read and interpret strips. Registered Nurses are not required to read their own strips. Scheduling is managed by the unit manager, with a possibility for block scheduling if unit needs are met. Weekend and holiday requirements exist as needed. Floating between medical and telemetry units is required. Self-scheduling is not available, nor is rotating shifts more than once a week. Bedside shift reporting is an expectation. The unit fosters a close-knit and positive culture. A radius rule of 50 miles is in place for applicants. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront and are limited during the contract period. Charting is done using electronic health records. A BSN is not required for this position. This role functions within a trauma level 2 care setting.
