Put your Civil Engineering expertise to work shaping the growth and development of Chatham County as a Civil Engineer II. This role offers the opportunity to review and guide development projects, ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulations, collaborate with contractors and public agencies, and provide technical recommendations that help build a safe, sustainable community. A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, five years of experience, and EIT certification are required, with the opportunity to obtain a Georgia PE license within two years.

Examples of Duties

• Regulates the development of new subdivisions and commercial sites in a section of the County, including reviewing and approving construction plans and supporting calculations to ensure compliance with local and State codes and ordinances and established engineering standards.
• Inspects ongoing and completed developments to ensure compliance with approved plans and issues violation notices and stop work orders to non-compliant sites.
• Issues Land Disturbing Activities permits.
• Researches and drafts new policies and ordinances and amendments to existing local engineering ordinances and codes for approval by the County Commission.
• Provides information and advice and makes recommendations to the County Manager, County Commissioners, and department heads regarding construction projects.
• Attends meetings with the County Manager, County Commissioners, and others as necessary.
• Prepares and presents information regarding County Commission agenda items for approval.
• Notifies property owners of property impacts and construction schedules of projects as requested.
• Completes all necessary reports, charts, graphs, correspondence, maps, and reports.
• Addresses, processes, investigates, and coordinates efforts to respond to citizen questions, complaints, and concerns about projects, including providing citizens with information.
• Coordinates with contractors, other departments and agencies, and other interested parties to solve construction difficulties and problems and adjusts original designs as needed.
• Reviews subdivision plats, Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), and ESA waiver requests to verify project compliance with County codes, ordinances, and requirements, including approving or denying ESA waiver requests, and recommending plats for approval by the County Engineer.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field, and
• At least five (5) years of experience in Civil Engineering; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Must possess the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a State of Georgia Professional Engineering (PE) License within two (2) years of employment.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.

In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.

Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.

CHATHAM COUNTY BENEFITS PLANS Eligibility for benefits begins on your date of hire. Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits. Part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees are not eligible to participate in the County benefit plan. However, regular part-time employees accrue prorated vacation and sick leave based on their schedule. RETIREMENT - Chatham County provides a Defined Benefit Pension Plan with a five-year vesting period. LIFE & DISABILITY - Long Term Disability and basic Life Insurance coverage are provided at no cost to employees. FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS - Chatham County offers Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts through payroll deduction. The Medical FSA has a rollover feature equal to the annual Federal maximum.
