Phlebotomist

Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection and laboratory specimen procedures for both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role requires expertise in blood draw techniques, specimen processing, and patient interaction while adhering to safety and infection control protocols. The Phlebotomist will work across multiple units, support quality assurance measures, and utilize electronic medical records to ensure accurate data entry and specimen tracking. Flexibility in working various shifts and weekend coverage is essential.

Responsibilities:

Perform blood draws using various tube types and collection methods.
Instruct and position patients appropriately for specimen collection.
Process, label, and store specimens according to laboratory protocols.
Maintain quality assurance and control standards in specimen handling.
Enter accurate data into electronic medical record systems (EPIC).
Respond promptly to emergencies related to specimen collection.
Adhere to safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance standards.
Float between different units as required to meet patient care needs.
Provide weekend coverage every other weekend as scheduled.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Minimum of 1 year experience in hospital and outpatient laboratory procedures.
Proficiency in blood draw techniques and specimen processing.
Knowledge of safety and infection control protocols.
Experience with electronic medical records, preferably EPIC.
Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, days, and evenings.
Ability to float between units and adapt to varying patient populations.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience working in a facility with inpatient and outpatient populations.
Familiarity with quality assurance and control procedures in laboratory settings.

Special Considerations:

Call coverage is required.
Floating to different units is mandatory.
Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
Locals accepted only if living more than 50 miles away or accepting a lower rate.
Scrubs are not provided; no specific color required.

Scheduling:

8-week assignment duration.
Work a combination of night, day, and evening shifts.
Schedule provided two weeks in advance.
