Head Coach; Debate

Anticipated start date: ASAP Stipend: $3,341 - $4,891 (SCAA Extra Curricular Salary Sched 2026-27) Must be at least 21 years old to serve as a Head Coach, and 19 years old to serve as an Assistant Coach. High school debate coach is responsible for guiding students in developing public speaking, critical thinking, research, and argumentation skills. The coach plans and leads practices, teaches debate formats and strategies, helps students prepare for competitions, and provides constructive feedback to improve performance. Additional duties may include organizing tournament participation, mentoring students on teamwork and leadership, coordinating with school staff and parents, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment that encourages academic growth and competitive success. Coaching students is approximately 2.5 hours after school, two days per week, along with evenings and weekends for debate tournaments. During the competition season, the schedule may include travel and extended hours to support students at local, regional, or state events. Additional administrative work is done for preparation. Coaches and Advisors who begin more than two weeks after their respective sport or activity begins will have their stipend prorated accordingly. Proration is based on total days worked in the season or activity versus total days of the season or activity.
