About the Position

Job Title: Procedural Assistant Profession: Interventional Radiology Technologist Specialty: Procedural Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR or vascular hybrid setting License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support or equivalent Must-Have: - Competency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures - Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect the quality of a procedure - Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English Description: Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure. Able to perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Completion of competencies is required. Able to use critical thinking skills. Works in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. Prepares the patient for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call shifts. Knows existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to the patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients. Assists with the maintenance of departmental records, standards, and regulations. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone calls using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks for outdates. Maintains current license and BLS certifications. Assists in training for other staff as appropriate. Works as a team with other staff to obtain the best possible outcomes. Performs any other duties as requested by leadership. Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker. Verifies written orders and consent, seeking clarification if unclear. Uses and understands preprocedural verification/time out forms. Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated. Responsible for patient, family/support system education. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards of work.
