Position Details Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 Department: Transport Services Overview of Position The Pharmacy Courier is responsible for timely medication movement from the central pharmacy to patient nurse servers, ensuring availability of patient medication and compliance with HFAP standards. Essential Duties Locates appropriate patient rooms and provides deliveries to nurse servers in accordance with nursing service level agreements. Unlocks servers to insert medications for current patients and locks the server when completed. Removes medication from nurse servers for discharged patients. Removes discontinued medications from the designated “discontinued medication” area in the nurse server. Ensures that transferred patients’ medications are received by the new unit. Maintains positive rapport with medical, paramedical, and nursing staff to resolve conflict and ensure quality of care. Interacts positively with other team members by constructively expressing opinions and actively participating in decision‑making teams. Has a thorough understanding of the drug distribution system to troubleshoot and solve related problems. During downtime, may assist in other areas of the Support Service Team (Environmental Services, Food and Dietary, Transport equipment runs, possible patient discharges) after proper training. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Sound interpersonal, decision‑making, investigative, and problem‑solving skills. Good listening, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in a complex and changing work environment. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Employee has requirements to travel to other floors and to deliver medications. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to walk for most of the shift and push a cart throughout the hospital. May need to use a personal computer and lock/unlock medication drawers, requiring finger dexterity. Requires bending and reaching to remove or place pharmaceuticals into/out of carts and servers. May regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required include close‑up vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to periodically rotate shifts and work regular days off, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts.
