Fire Systems Manager

Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) oversees institutional strategic initiatives and operations across the State of New Jersey. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Fire Systems Manager to supervise fire system inspection, testing, maintenance, and to coordinate with other Emergency Services units when work crosses disciplines. Key Responsibilities Ensure field work is performed in accordance with regulations, standards, and direction of the Assistant Director. Attend construction meetings to incorporate department and university fire‑system requirements into design. Assist staff in troubleshooting, determining repair actions, and coordinating with contractors or vendors. Review field staff reports for completeness and accuracy, providing feedback as needed. Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire systems as assigned. Maintain accurate inventory of repair stock and order supplies with approval. May be required to work nights and/or weekends and carry a department‑issued cell phone for after‑hours service calls. Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science Technology (or related field) with at least five (5) years of experience in fire systems inspection, testing, and maintenance. Valid New Jersey driver’s license and completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Required certifications: NJ Division of Fire Safety Fire Protection Contractor – Fire Sprinkler or Fire Alarm. Dual certification preferred. Working knowledge of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code. Preferred Qualifications Dual certification in NJ Fire Sprinkler and Fire Alarm. Familiarity with computerized inspection tracking systems and fire‑system maintenance equipment. Physical Demands and Work Environment Extensive walking, climbing stairs and ladders, traversing narrow spaces and catwalks, and reaching roof areas.
