School Resource Officer

POSITION SUMMARY Enforce local and state laws and county ordinances relating to public safety and welfare. Patrol assigned areas; apprehend and arrest violators; perform a variety of public service safety and security functions with a primary role of school security at the assigned school. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provide law enforcement services for the assigned school. Schedule deputies for off‑duty work for school functions. Work with school administrators to address safety concerns. Conduct periodic security assessments of the school. Perform supportive call duty in various environments under varying degrees of stress, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism. REQUIREMENTS Must be a certified Class 1 Officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must have School Resource Officer certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy, or must be able to achieve certification within the specified timeframe. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential matters. Ability to perform duties with general direction, limited supervision, and self‑motivation and time management. Demonstrated professional etiquette and the ability to plan, organize, supervise, and instruct personnel. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage well with juveniles.
