Job Duties
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking an Audiologist to provide comprehensive audiological services for students who have sensory impairments or related concerns, as well as diagnostic and consultative assessments for children with similar needs referred by local education and early intervention agencies and local healthcare providers; to provide supervision and consultation for Speech Language Pathologists as well as Parent Infant-Outreach Services and to work collaboratively as a resource for early intervention agencies, health care providers, and school systems serving children who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing, blind or low vision, deafblind and sensory impaired with multiple disabilities. The Audiologist will assist in the provision of essential services for children with deafness or blindness by providing quality day and residential instructional programs to children referred by local school divisions and by serving as a resource for children with similar disabilities educated throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is located in the historic, vibrant city of Staunton, Virginia. VSDB provides superior education for students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/vision impaired, deafblind, and deaf or blind with other disabilities. VSDB offers PreK-12 education with both residential and day student options. This is a 12-month position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance, and disability coverage. The beginning date for this position is the beginning of our next school year in July 2026.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Audiology. Hold or be eligible for license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Knowledge of supervision practices in the fields of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain following DMV guidelines Experience with developing and/or implementing a hearing conservation program or willingness to learn Knowledge of child growth and development, and special needs of children with disabilities Knowledge of child development (birth through three), family centered practices, early intervention service pathways, early intervention practitioner requirements, and federal and state Part C regulations and practices Proficiency level of "Advanced" in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years Ability to plan and organize work Ability to work using a team approach Ability to follow school policies and procedures Knowledge of audiologic tests and equipment, hearing aids, hearing aid fittings, cochlear implants and other assistive listening device technology Ability to independently manage clinical duties, outreach assessments, scheduling, testing, counseling, reporting, referring and record keeping Ability to maintain and troubleshoot clinical equipment and supplies Physical requirements: Ability to interact on a physical level with children and to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing
Additional Considerations
Doctor of Audiology preferred License from the Virginia Board of Hearing Aid Specialists and Opticians is preferred Experience in audiological assessment of children preferred Experience in Educational Audiology preferred Experience in non-therapeutic counseling techniques preferred Virginia Infant and Toddler Connection Early Intervention Certification/Supervision preferred
