Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy) Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an VA‑approved school Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification, or one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑US residency training followed by three years of verified independent practice in the United States Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred experience in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Physical ability to perform a generally sedentary job with occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying lightweight items Ability to manage rigid deadlines and high degree of accuracy under stress. Duties A psychiatrist who is board certified or eligible in general psychiatry with a full unrestricted license to practice medicine Interpret diagnostic tests in the course of clinical practice and participate in professional peer review of own and others’ work Participate in goal‑setting and treatment service planning discussions and maintain professional knowledge through continuing education Conduct assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop treatment plans for patients with substance use and/or other psychiatric disorders using an interdisciplinary team approach Manage psychiatric medication for patients and evaluate the general medical suitability of clinic patients for withdrawal management, detoxification, and/or psychiatric hospitalization Assess and intervene with patients presenting in crisis Prescribe medications for the treatment of substance use disorders—including buprenorphine—and other psychiatric disorders Serve as a consultant for SUD/OUD expertise, including for Community‑Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and participate in committees or process‑improvement projects Collaborate, coordinate, and cooperate with colleagues within and across disciplines, especially the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team Benefits Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid absence for CME) Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Free malpractice liability protection with tail coverage No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm #J-18808-Ljbffr
