Veterinary Technician - Austin Equine Associates

PetVet Care Centers’ Austin Equine Associates is currently seeking a Veterinary Technician to join their team. Position Overview This full‑time role (minimum 40 hours per week) requires veterinarians, interns, and externs to receive technical assistance. Duties include stocking surgical facilities, cleaning treatment areas, and supporting clinic operations. The schedule demands nights, weekends, and holidays; the position offers a 4‑day work week with 10‑hour shifts and three days off Friday through Sunday. Key Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations and treatments. Perform or assist with diagnostics, including x‑rays, ultrasound, and shockwave. Collect and deliver lab samples. Handle horse restraint during examinations and treatments. Perform daily cleaning and maintenance duties. Restock exam rooms, pharmacy, and field vehicles. Communicate with clients and staff. Load, unload, and set up equipment. Prepare and maintain medical records and reports. Inspect and clean field vehicles and equipment; report maintenance issues. Assist with care of horses housed at the clinic, including feeding, watering, stall cleaning, and yard housekeeping. Respond to emergency call‑ins, weekend, or holiday duties as directed by supervisor. Minimum Qualifications Basic knowledge of equine handling, restraint, and health. Experience with stall cleaning and basic veterinary procedures. Professional customer‑service skills. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Strong written and verbal communication in English. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks outdoors. Strong safety awareness and adherence to protocols. Physical Demands Maintain visual and auditory discrimination for monitoring and equipment operation. Handle environments with animals, waste, loud noise, and varying weather; manage dust, fumes, and airborne particles. Engage in activities such as walking, sitting, stooping, lifting, climbing, and operating on uneven surfaces. Maintain a safe driving record. Communicate effectively with others, prepare reports, and make sound decisions. Experience, Education, and Licensing Required At least 6 months of handling, restraining, and caring for horses. High school graduation or equivalent. Valid Texas or other U.S. state driver’s license. Physical ability to lift 40 lb. Self‑sufficient and able to handle horses safely. Preferred Veterinary technician degree (ASS) or equivalent. Experience administering oral medication, IM/IV injections, and monitoring fluids. Experience monitoring critically ill patients. Ability to handle difficult horses and trailer loading. Schedule Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. No part‑time work available. Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
