Pediatric Ophthalmologist

The Pediatric Ophthalmologist is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of serious eye conditions including but not limited to conjunctivitis, corneal disease, ocular disease, ROP, strabismus, oculoplastics, glaucoma and cataracts; vision problems such as nearsightedness; and eye injuries. Pediatric Ophthalmologist will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide the high quality care to include providing evaluation and treatment plan specific to the needs of each patient.

Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and treating specific eye conditions in infants, children and adolescents in outpatient and inpatient settings. Performing eye surgery and prescribing and fitting eyeglasses. Analyzing results from all tests conducted and sharing results with patient and family. Making high-level judgements due to the complexities of ophthalmic conditions. Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record. Collaborating with physicians, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs. Providing health promotion, education to patient/families related to medication, diagnosis and caring for the condition and options. Management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients. Utilizing quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows. Participating in research initiatives. Participating in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction. Providing education and training to residents, fellows and medical students. Participating in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards. May participate in peer review and quality assurance. Participating in call rotation along with other Providers. Performing other duties as assigned. Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

Qualifications include a graduate from an accredited school of medicine, an MD or DO Degree, 2 or more years of experience preferred, and completed Fellowship Training in Pediatric Ophthalmology. License and/or certification required includes a current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT, DEA with Controlled Substance, and board certified/board eligible Ophthalmology must be certified within 2 years of employment.
