Position Overview

This role is for an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level, playing a crucial part in the surgical team. The nurse provides expert, patient-focused care throughout the perioperative period, demonstrating advanced skills and certifications. Independence in practice combined with effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams ensures patient safety and excellent surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to unit safety and infection control standards.
• Patient Care: Coordinate with healthcare professionals to deliver timely, equitable, and patient-centered surgical care. Perform thorough preoperative assessments to tailor individualized perioperative plans. Monitor patient status during surgery and intervene promptly when necessary. Advocate for patient dignity and confidentiality. Administer moderate sedation during Endoscopy procedures.
• Surgical Support: Manage surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies properly. Handle and document surgical specimens per policy and physician instructions. Anticipate surgical team needs to ensure smooth workflow.
• Safety and Compliance: Follow aseptic techniques and infection control protocols rigorously. Comply with regulatory standards including The Joint Commission, OSHA, and AORN guidelines. Adhere to policies ensuring safe surgical care, including patient identification and prevention of retained surgical items. Identify and report safety concerns proactively.
• Documentation: Accurately record perioperative care, patient progress, and intraoperative events in electronic medical records.
• Professional Development and Leadership: Mentor and precept Clinical Nurse I staff and students. Engage in continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement initiatives. Advocate for best practices within surgical services.
• Emergency Preparedness: Respond decisively and calmly in critical situations such as cardiac arrest or massive hemorrhage, demonstrating advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity operating room setting.
• At least two years' experience as a CVOR Registered Nurse.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases across multiple surgical specialties including Neuro, Spine, HEENT, General, GYN, Vascular, Thoracic, Minimally Invasive, Robotic, and Orthopedics.
• Scrub experience is highly preferred.

• Technical Skills: Proficient with advanced surgical equipment and technology. Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Expertise in sterile field management and surgical protocol adherence.
• Critical Thinking: Ability to make rapid decisions under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively in dynamic surgical environments.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with surgical teams, patients, and families.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Candidates with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and five years of high-acuity operating room experience may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the relevant state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association. ACLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire if not already held.
• Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification is preferred.

Successful candidates must pass a physical exam, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment. This position is based in a regional healthcare setting within the Pacific Southwest region of the United States.
