Sterile Processing Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Sterile Processing Department, including planning, directing, organizing, and staffing services in compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies. This role involves administrative leadership, human resource management, financial oversight, quality monitoring, and collaboration with Surgical Services and other departments to ensure efficient and high-quality sterile processing services. Responsibilities:

  • Assist department leadership in broad operational management to ensure comprehensive departmental services.
  • Plan, direct, organize, monitor, and staff the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Supervise and coordinate all resources and services within the department.
  • Manage human resources functions including hiring, coaching, training, scheduling, and payroll.
  • Oversee financial management and purchasing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies such as DNV and hospital administrative directives.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, training, and competency programs in collaboration with Coordinators and Surgical Services.
  • Maintain communication and relationships with Surgical Services, clinics, and other internal and external customers.
  • Continuously assess, measure, and improve departmental performance and quality.
  • Demonstrate clinical, technical, and managerial competency.
  • Lead, teach, inspire, and uphold hospital behavioral standards among staff.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician.
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) required.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills including planning, delegation, monitoring, and performance improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer applications including MS Office and EMR systems.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
  • 2 years healthcare experience in Surgical Services and/or Sterile Processing.
Special Considerations:
  • Must complete all required education and training per DNV and hospital policies.
  • Ability to work in a busy, stressful environment with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • May be exposed rarely to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards.
  • Must demonstrate patience, discretion, sensitivity, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Scheduling:
  • Full-time position with evening shift hours.
  • Regular and sustained attendance required, with possibility of working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek.
  • May include weekends, after-hours shifts, and on-call duties as needed to respond to organizational, patient, or employee needs.
