Principal, Air Quality

Job Location St. Louis, MO, USA Job Overview Join our Environment and Health department as our new Air Quality Principal and work with our Air Quality team to close the gap to a sustainable future. You will bring your Air Quality and Business Development skills into play as you contribute to innovative and sustainable air quality solutions to help grow our St. Louis business unit. Your New Role As our new Air Quality Principal, you will be part of the firm’s collaborative, inclusive, and creative Air Quality team in St. Louis. The successful candidate will provide technical and business leadership and contribute to innovative solutions in the commercial, manufacturing, government, energy, financial, insurance, and/or law sectors. You must generate and maintain a volume of business sufficient to support the growth of the firm, typically at least enough business to support 2–3 staff members, nominally $1 MM/year or above after ramp‑up. Key Responsibilities Identifying and pursuing business development opportunities. Managing projects, clients, and regulatory agency relations. Critically reviewing and interpreting local, state, and federal environmental regulations, compiling and drafting regulatory applicability determinations, and communicating findings to co‑workers, clients, and regulatory agencies. Overseeing the preparation of comprehensive federal and state air permit application materials. Testifying at administrative and/or court hearings. Participating in local, national and international scientific and trade group meetings. Conducting site visits. Qualifications B.S./M.S./Ph.D. degree in Engineering or Environmental Sciences, or related discipline. 13+ years of related air science experience, largely in a consulting environment. Demonstrated capability in understanding, interpreting, and applying environmental regulations to real‑world situations. Understanding of air quality issues and agency‑approved methods and guidance. Ability to externally manage client and regulatory agency relationships and internally manage staff and competing project priorities. Demonstrated business development capabilities. Salary The anticipated base salary range for this position is $161,000 – $202,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. The position may also be eligible for bonus, overtime, or other forms of compensation, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package.
