Overview The Ultrasound Technologist performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomical data according to established standards. Provides basic patient care, maintains equipment, transports patients and prepares and maintains documentation. This position's location is on-site only. Responsibilities Patient Care Obtains patient history. Educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention. Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure. Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines. Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion. Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures. Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies. Maintains infection prevention standards. Explains standard procedures and answers patients questions. Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment. Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required. Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomic data. Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Utilizes transabdominal technology to monitor patient or fetus health, detect or monitor tumors/cysts and diagnose cardiovascular conditions. May assist with vascular ultrasound procedures and ultra-sound guided biopsies and other guided procedures. Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notifying appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service. Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidenced based practice and research. Focuses on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students. Works with peers and other health care providers. Participates in ongoing in-service and educational seminars. Participates in orienting, assisting, mentoring and education of colleagues and students. Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility. If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates. Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame. Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program, or Associates of Applied Science degree and graduation from an Ultrasound certificate program - Required Certification & Licensures: ARDMS ABD and 2 other certification (AB, BR, FE, OB/GYN, RDCS, PS, AE, FE, PE, RVT, VT, RMSKS, MSKS) - RequiredFMC Overnight: RVT – RequiredVVMC: Breast US - PreferredBLS (American Heart Assoc.)- RequiredFingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hireFingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire Experience: Minimum 1 year general hospital experience as an Ultrasound Technologist – Required Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department.
