Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation skills, with a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details

• Hospital-based Med/Surg unit with an isolation area designated for COVID patients and multi-level care capability including stepdown
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture diagnoses
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6
• 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), with 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Weekend requirement of 12–16 hours per contract
• Floating to other units is required
• Remote telemetry monitoring performed on unit
• Specialized procedures include chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, IV insulin protocols, PCA, heparin administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, colostomy and feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and phlebotomy
• Epic used for documentation; Pyxis for medication dispensing; SBAR for communication
• Epic experience is preferred

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry with remote monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two manager or supervisor professional references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file by start date)

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
• Former permanent, PRN, or per diem employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Orientation consists of a full week of hospital orientation (classes required each day) plus 24 hours of unit orientation; no RTO is permitted during the first week
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; RTO requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Pre-start online modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Unit consolidation to a centralized office may occur mid-contract, with travelers potentially reassigned to other units as needed
• Travel pairs are permitted; each must have independent transportation and be comfortable with differing schedules
• Contracts start at 13 weeks with the option for longer assignments; preference for 36 or 48 hours per week can be noted
• Scrub color requirement: navy and/or white
