Electrical Technician Position

Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking an Electrical Technician. This position will perform a variety of skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems at the treatment plant and pumping stations.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Installing and repairing electrical systems for equipment and machinery including high voltage and power distribution systems up to 12kv.
  • Performing preventative and predictive maintenance on plant electrical equipment and controls.
  • Testing and calibrating high voltage system protective relays.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives.
  • Installing panels, miscellaneous electrical apparatus, and conduit and wiring.
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 on call system.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience in maintaining, installing, and repairing a variety of electrical, electronic, and control systems common to heavy industrial processing plants. Experience working in a wastewater or water facility preferred.
  • License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License. A valid out-of-state driver's license will be accepted during the application process. Must possess a valid California Driver's License within 90 days of appointment.

  • Insurance: General employees enjoy fully paid dental, vision, and life insurances. Employees have a choice of medical plans which includes chiropractic. Kaiser and HealthNet SmartCare are fully paid by the District. Employees entitled to dual health coverage may receive an additional $400 per month with the entire amount contributed to deferred compensation in lieu of a second coverage.
  • Retirement: District employees are members of the Contra Costa County Employees' Retirement Association (CCCERA) with reciprocity to CalPERS.
  • A retirement benefit is based upon a formula which includes the employee's age, salary, and years of service. The formula for new employees is 2%@ 62 unless reciprocity is established with an eligible retirement system. The formula for new employees with reciprocity is 2%@ 55.

  • Leaves: The District offers liberal vacation and sick leave benefits as well as 13 paid holidays plus one birthday holiday per year.
  • Deferred Compensation: The District does not participate in the Social Security System except for a mandatory Medicare contribution. Instead, the District contributes to a 401 (a) Money Purchase plan an amount equivalent to the employer portion of contributions to the Social Security (currently 6.2%) in addition to salary. The District also offers employees an optional Deferred Compensation 457 plan with a choice of savings and investment options.
  • Cafeteria Plan: General employees are allowed $100 each month toward the selection of additional benefits.
  • Other Benefits: Other benefits enjoyed by District employees include overtime, an employee assistance program, a tuition reimbursement plan, longevity compensation, a registration differential, a sick leave incentive program, retiree benefits, credit union privileges through the 1st Northern California Credit Union, and a comprehensive wellness program including an on-site gym facility.
