Endocrinology Medical Assistant

Wentworth Health Partners (WHP), an affiliate of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and member of Mass General Brigham Medical Group, offers Endocrinology and Diabetes Care at our state-of-the-art facility at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH. This practice provides care for patients with endocrine conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and a broad spectrum of other hormonal disorders. Our expert team of clinical and administrative professionals focus on specialized diagnostics and treatment, including advanced patient education programs to assist individuals looking to improve their health and enjoy a better quality of life.

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to join our Endocrinology team, working Monday through Friday with staggered shifts between 7:30 AM and 5:15 PM. As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistants have the opportunity to work autonomously at the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of a collaborative team. This is a busy Endocrinology practice where the MA will gain hands-on experience downloading insulin pumps, glucose meters, and sensors; performing point-of-care testing including blood glucose and A1Cs; administering injections; and assisting with sterile procedures. Medical Assistants rotate supporting our providers, offering valuable opportunities to collaborate, build skills, gain exposure to different practice styles, and expand clinical knowledge in a fast-paced specialty setting.

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions:

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred. Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred.

Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.
